SoldierAnts Game Review

10 Apr

If you ever played Worms on PC, you will know how addicting it can be. SoldierAnts is a turn based artillery game similar to worms and you can play against the computer AI or pass it around to play with your friends.

Basically, you can choose either battle mode or campaign mode. In campaign mode, two sides of ants will fight each other to win a territory. After winning, the winning ants team will move to the next territory and continue the battle till the winner emerges. There are five different destructible landscapes to battle on with over twenty destructive weapons to choose from!

In battle mode, it is only a single mission where you choose to be on the red or blue team. There is a health bar on the top of the game which shows you the overall health of your team mates. If your health bar shortens till it is very low, your team will lose. Basically, it also represents how many team mates are left surviving.

The variety of weapons is wide. I can choose snowball gun, flame thrower, AK47 gun, sniper rifle, prod, grenade, rpg, missile, petrol bomb, mine, cluster bomb, air strike and time bomb. The weapons are separated into two categories – shoot  (ninja stars) or explode types (yellow explosion). Tapping into each category will further expand the list of weapons you can select. If you got problem choosing “fire” over some weapons, this is because the weapon cannot be used at the moment. I believe these weapons can only be used after you buy them in the later stages of the game.

There are also other miscellaneous items to choose – left jump, right jump, jetpack for flying, mole and teleport (for teleport to a certain location). Cool, isn’t it? To move your ants, just tap on it and select the direction keys.

The music makes me want to play more. Each of your team mates ant has a health bar on top of it so you can monitor when it will die. There are also falling health packs and weapon packs from the sky so whichever team reaches the location will get the falling items! Certainly, I will recommend my friends to pick up this game on iTunes!

I give 5 for graphics because of the explosion effects and the small animations of the ants being neatly done. The graphics in the video are not clear so I don’t blame anyone from disagreeing with me.

It will be good to have a lite version for those people who are siting on the fence, deciding whether to get this game because of $2.99 price tag.

Graphics: 5 /5
Sound/Music: 5/5
Fun: 5/5
Addictiveness: 5/5
Value for money: 4/5
Overall: 4.9 /5

Get the game on iTunes for $2.99.
