Airport Madness Mobile Game Review

Airport Madness Mobile is a traffic control game where you play as an air traffic controller in a busy airport. The game lets you think where you want to park your plane and make them stop and wait for other planes to cross before they fly or move.

The first action you need to be familiar with is “Taxi”. Taxi means you need to park and wait as in a Taxi stand. You need to tap the plane to select for this action.

If there are no other planes coming in from the left side of the airport, you can select the plane for “Cleared for takeoff”. If there are incoming planes, you need to “Line Up” your planes and wait for them to pass before they take off from the runway.

The other two actions are “Go around” and “Slow down”. “Slow down” means you make your incoming planes move slower so that they will not collide with the other planes at the airport. “Go around” is useful if the airport is too packed and you like the airplane to fly around first before there are space to cater for them.

The last action are “Do Not Cross”. This action is useful in scenarios where the paths are intersecting each other and the planes are moving towards each other. This is to avoid collisions. Once you have collisions, this will be counted as a mishap.

This game can be played in either Arcade mode with only 3 mishaps allowed or Adventure mode with unlimited number of mishaps allowed. The arcade mode has a timer ticking down to let you know how much time you have left and the Adventure mode lets you have more time to figure out the game play.

This game needs a tutorial to guide new gamers. I figured out the actions by myself as there are no help instructions provided.

The whole game rates the high performers in terms of how much money each gamer makes when doing the traffic controller business. Once planes take-off successfully, there is extra money to be made into your account.

The graphics for this game are pretty simple. It is the gameplay that is complex. This game is selling on iTunes for $4.99, which may be a high price for people who wants to own it. But overall, I like the gameplay with its very unique background music which encourages people to play this game.

Graphics: 3.5/5
Sound/Music: 5/5
Fun: 5/5
Addictiveness: 4/5
Value for money: 4/5
Overall 4 / 5

Hmmm…great review. I had the opportunity to buy with some birthday money given to me, either a PS3 (I have to shell out a little dough to make up the difference) or the 3G 32GB iTouch. I chose the latter because of its portability, great graphics and specs. But, mainly because of the lower price point for games (just one of the reasons I bought this device). PS3 games cost about $60 and iTouch’s are from $0.99 to $14.99, generally speaking. That being said, $4.99 seems a bit steep for a game. While it won’t break the bank for most, the i-game prices are driven down by the plethora of games in the market (most of which are shoddy). A lower price point would probably benefit the developer more, if someone, say were trying to decide between “Airport Madness” and a similar-looking game, “Flight Control” which I bought for $0.99 a couple of months back. Again, at face value, $5 isn’t asking for a lot, but in today’s app market, it may appear to be so by comparison.

Also, a tutorial or help is greatly needed for each and every game unless it is intuitive. A good tutorial just makes a game more approachable even for some software which my have the simplest gameplay available.

While I have yet to play the game (and I hope I’m one of the lucky ones to win a promo code), it would be cool to be able to select a plane and steer it using the accelerometer giving the end-user more exacting control. “Unselected” planes can go the route of “Flight Control” and head towards tarmac after being directed previously.
