Doing flow charts on the Apple iPad is something someone who will never dream about. This week, I took the chance to review Less Chart-HD.

It is a simple and easy to use flow chart application you can find on iTunes App Store.

The application also allows to create different colored shapes on the chart itself by choosing from the toolbar.

However, you cannot change the color of the shape on the chart.

You can  delete the entire chart  if you don’t like it or delete the arrows that link between shapes or even delete  the individual shape by tapping on the recycle bin.

The recycle bin concept reminds me of using the windows operating system and anyone can simply relate to that.

The application will start with two standard chart templates. You can choose the basic “How to” or “Auto shape” template to learn how to create the desired chart you need.

The “How to” template teaches you how to link basic shapes, how to draw the arrow between shapes and how to edit each individual’s description.

The “Auto Shape” template offers explanations on how to use the magic wand tool and how you can add decision shapes using “?” in your description.

There are additional options to export to image file or email the finished chart to yourself or other people within the application.

Deletion of arrows is pretty straightforward as there will be a red cross sign shown when you want to delete the arrow.

Overall, this application gives me a whole new impression of doing flow charts or chart on the iPad.  Of course, it cannot compare with Visio from Microsoft having a wide variety of shapes for you to choose from.

But it uses finger taps to accomplish drawing shapes on a chart. You might get frustrated drawing arrows from shapes because you need to tap on the arrow toolbar and choose the shape you want the arrow to start from and tap again on the destination shape. The application does not use drag and drop but you might get used to it after a few tries.

You will get better after a few practices on finger tapping on the shapes and putting them on the chart.

For a price of $3.99, I will think this application can get you up and running with the basic flow chart you want to create.

My Ratings for this Application:

Functionality: 3.5 / 5
Ease of Use: 4 /5
Value for Money: 4 / 5
Type of users Catered for: Normal users
Overall: 4 /5
