On 01/07/2011, the successful Dundee, Scotland based video games development studio Tag Games announced the launch of its new self-publishing arm ‘Tagplay’. This innovative business strategy will accurately reflect the distinction between the studio’s client-driven developments, which will continue under the Tag Games arm, and its own studio-driven developments, which will now be released under the Tagplay arm.
Tagplay will be looking to cement itself quickly as a key player in mobile gaming development with its first title – ‘Funpark Friends™’. This freemium social-sim title has been designed and built from the ground up by the studio for mobile and online platforms and will allow players to create and customise extensive theme parks which other players can then innovatively interact with. Due for a 2011 Q3 release, this game will highlight the quality and social innovation of the Tagplay brand and will mark the studio’s transition from developing under the one-time-purchase model to the freemium model. This is an extremely important step for the studio as it acknowledges and adjusts itself to the increasingly overwhelming market demand for free gaming. Additionally, it can be announced that Tagplay will be seeking to expand upon the significant success generated by the studio’s own ‘Car Jack Streets™’ title with a successor title ‘Car Jack Streets 2™’, currently under development and due for a 2012 release.
One of the principle objectives of the new Tagplay arm is the construction of strong studio-user connections and the hiring of Product Evangelist, Simon Adams, demonstrates a firm commitment by the studio to reaching out to modern players. Simon and Paul Farley, Managing Director and founder of Tag Games, elaborated:
