Virtual City 2: Paradise Resort Game Review for iPad

5 Apr

I just started playing this game on my iPad. The game experience is wonderful. You can upgrade the buildings like small house, garage, medium house or even build shopping malls and theatre  in the game itself.

The game starts with showing you the map of the city where you will start building your new venture. You can access the various tabs to do the building process. For example, in the below screenshot, you can only build shopping mall. As you accumulate more money, you can build more buildings or do upgrades for your buildings. Similarly, you can tap on the bulldozer icon to demolish the building to create space for new buildings.

The game is easy to play and navigate. However, there is a lack of description for the legend symbols on the top right hand corner of the game screen. It is not that clear from first looks. You need to tap the symbol to see what it stands for. I am wondering what the tree icon stands for when I first started playing. It actually represents the eco-friendly standard of your city. You can increase this value by planting forest, buildings, parks, theatres and other useful buildings.

The smiley face stands for the satisfaction level or level of happiness of the people in the city you are building. The happiness level depends on entertainment. You can release fireworks to make the people happy or build entertainment centres such as shopping malls or theatres to keep people happy. The men and woman sign represents the population level. You can increase the population level by upgrading the residential buildings or increasing the number of houses in the city. There is also a jobs rating. You need to transport the citizens from bus stops to the offices to increase this rating. However, this rating negatively impact the happiness rating. You need to keep these two ratings balanced.

One disadvantage of this game is that you cannot remove the trees or forest to make way for new buildings. You can only remove existing buildings to make way for new ones. You can only upgrade the certain buildings up to the maximum capacity. Once you upgraded the garage to the maximum capacity, you can move on to upgrade the income level of the buses. The colour of the buses will change from blue, yellow, green to red. Red buses have the highest income capacity.

The other area this game can improve is space out the action buttons. When I tried to navigate my bus to certain routes, the cancel action button is close to one of the destination I want to navigate the bus to. Tapping on the icons can easily incur mistakes if they are spaced closely together.

After I completed the game level, the game will show you the money earned in your bank account and the ratings you earned in the game. You can either choose to continue playing the game level or move on to the next level.

The game lets you brag about your game achievements to your friends in Facebook.

The money earned in the previous game levels can be used to buy new buildings which you can build in your new city. This is termed as the R & D Lab in the game.

For newbies who have not played previous version of Virtual City, the game is packed with tips to help you get familiarised with the game.

To deploy buses to drive the customers from the offices, you need to start from the car garage. You can increase the number of buses by tapping on the bus icon which will appear when you access the Garage. The path of the bus route will be highlighted with green dots. You can change the destinations in the path by deselecting some of the destinations in the route.

Sometimes, when the garage is full, you cannot deploy any more buses. You can increase the income of the buses and they will upgrade and change in colour. The 2nd directional path icon represents the route you want the bus driver to take. You can navigate the passengers from the offices to the shopping malls or to the entertainment centres. Similarly, you can sell some of the buses by tapping on the money icon. This will free up the capacity in the car garage.

Overall, I feel Virtual City 2 is a great game with some glitches. But these glitches can be easily fixed in the next updates. The game is packed with excitement wandering around new buildings to be built and you definitely need some strategy to achieve some of the game objectives. Once the objectives are obtained, they will be marked with ticks. It is definitely a game you can start playing for free. To unlock the full version, you need to do an in-app purchase within the game.
