Perhaps the developer can introduce a challenge mode where players are supposed to complete certain task within certain limit. e.g. shoot 5 cannon successfully within 5 mins of game play for. Another e.g would be to shoot 2 canon using green colour pipes only. This will add another dimension to the game.
It will be great if the game can support wi-fi so can mulit-players with the same game can challenge each other. This will definitely make the game more interactive.

this game play is somehow similar to pipedream i suppose maybe it can add power up like for eg able to blast away the pipe or even “wild cards” that can choose the type of pipe you want. Although those powerup must be earn by yourself either through points or combo etc.

perhaps once when the cannon fires off, the screen can change into a sea view with some pirate ships floating on the sea and the player will control the cannon ball(s) to hit the pirate ships to get some bonus points.

perhaps if offline, scores can be stored and then automatically submitted next time you play the game when connected (instead of not allowing you to proceed with the game if offline as you mentioned in the review).
possible unlockable trophies can be “complete level within 30 secs”, “fire off total of 100 cannons”, “defeat 10 ships”, etc.
story mode, different characters should get different abilities – more time, cheaper upgrades, etc.
